1. Power of Influence Within your Personal Career - Influence is the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone. Over the course of a career, marketers and business developers learn to use persuasion, positive reinforcement, mentoring, training, and a host of other soft skills to impact their firm's success.

2. Negotiating Skills - Negotiation is about relationships. By developing and maintaining a good rapport with all the players, everyone can win.  In the end, you are forging mutual, agreeable terms as well as forming long term relationships.

3. Persuasion - To be able to influence others, one must be able to persuade someone to see their point of view. Persuasion is an important part of becoming influential.

4. The Win-Win Result - When the result is a win for all parties involved even when they desired result is not achieved.

Craig Galati, AIA, FSMPS, CPSM - Current SMPS National President

Craig Galati, AIA, FSMPS, CPSM is passionate about vision, marketing, and strategic solutions that move firms and the industry forward. Craig is highly respected for his integrity and has received numerous awards over his career in both design and marketing communications. He has over over 30 years of experience practicing architecture and is currently the President of LGA in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has guided the firm’s marketing and business development strategies for the past 15 years. Craig is a former President of SMPS Las Vegas, AIA Las Vegas, and AIA Nevada and is recipient of the AIA Nevada Silver Medal. He is a former member of the City of Las Vegas Planning Commission and currently serves as the SMPS Society President.

Carolyn Ferguson, FSMPS, CPSM - 2010-2011 National President, Current President of the SMPS Foundation Board

A communicator, strategist and trainer, Carolyn Ferguson, FSMPS, CPSM, facilitates corporate and marketing strategies, develops awards and public relations programs and she successfully coaches A|E|C teams pursuing specific project pursuits totaling project values in the billions. As President of WinMore Marketing Advisors, Carolyn oversees the strategic vision of the company. Carolyn has garnered 59 national and regional design awards and developing distinct messaging and strategies to differentiate one firm from another is Carolyn’s specialty. She has been an A/E/C marketing consultant for 23 years, is the SMPS Foundation President, a Fellow of SMPS and was named to the Building Design + Construction Magazine’s “40 under 40” list. Carolyn is a Texas Tech Red Raider and graduated with a degree in Communications and Ballet.

Carolyn has been active in the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) for 19 years. During her term as National President, Carolyn was instrumental in developing and initiating SMPS U in partnership with the University of Maryland, Robert E. Smith School of Business. This graduate-level program examines the marketing, business development, and client service principles integral to the strategic operation of the professional services firm. She has served as Houston Chapter President, National President-Elect, President and Secretary. She has been honored by the chapter with numerous awards — New Member and Member of the Year, Rock of the Chapter, Marketing Excellence and was inducted into the SMPS Houston "2012 Class - Hall of Fame". She was also named SMPS National Chapter President of the Year and is the first non-technical woman currently serving on the Editorial Board for Building Design + Construction Magazine.

Brad Thurman, P.E., FSMPS, CPSM - 2013-2014 SMPS National President

Brad Thurman, PE, FSMPS, CPSM is a principal and Chief Marketing Officer with Wallace Engineering, a structural and civil engineering consulting firm.  Since 1998 he has helped lead Wallace's marketing and business development efforts across two disciplines and six offices.  Brad is a past-president of SMPS Oklahoma, served for three years as an instructor for the SMPS Presidents’ Leadership Symposium, an annual training program for incoming chapter presidents-elect, and was co-chair of Build Business 2009 in Las Vegas.  He is a licensed Professional Engineer and served as the 2013-14 President on the SMPS National Board.

Barbara Shuck, FSMPS, CPSM - 2014-2015 SMPS National President

Barbara Shuck, FSMPS, CPSM, shares her energy, passion and 30+ years of experience to teach, challenge, motivate, and inspire marketers and technical staff on their individual journeys. She has worked for general contracting, engineering, construction management, and architectural firms, and is currently Corporate Marketing Manager at Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects. She is Past President for the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), and served as Secretary/Treasurer (2009-2013), Chair of the Build Business Conference Committee (Denver-2008), and Chair of the Marketing Communications Awards (2006). She was a contributing author for A/E/C Business Development: The Decade Ahead published by the SMPS Foundation, and has written and presented extensively at A/E/C industry events. She also volunteers as a SCORE workshop speaker. She has an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management (Glendale, AZ), and a BA in Communication Arts and French from Washburn University (Topeka, KS).

Parking is available at the garage located across the street from Petterino’s at 181 N. Dearborn. When checking in for the program, please make sure you receive a parking voucher. Please insert the parking voucher into the automated machine at the garage in order to receive the discount of $13 for a max of 3 hours. 

All sales are final. Refunds must be requested 5 days prior to an event in writing or by email. 

Student Membership Eligibility. Registration at Student rate be verified and if the registrant is found to be non-compliant with these requirements, s/he will be responsible for the balance of the full, applicable rate.
