About Our Speakers

Caroline Brogan has been the Marketing Manager for FGM Architects since 2004.  In this role, she is responsible for the oversight and direction of all proposals, interviews, public relations, website maintenance, social media, award submissions, photography and collateral for the firm.  Prior to joining FGM Architects, Caroline was a Senior Marketing Coordinator for CUH2A in Chicago.  Her contributions to SMPS include leading the CPSM Examination Preparation Program for four years and serving as the Co-Chair of two previous Marketing Bootcamp programs. Caroline received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Concordia University and has over 25 years of marketing experience.

Sarah Hill-Matthiesen, CPSM, is Marketing Manager with Bulley & Andrews. Her career in the AEC industry began over 10 years ago with Cotter Consulting, Inc. where she developed a strong reputation for creativity, credibility and attention to detail.  Armed with a keen sense of the firm’s brand and associated value proposition, the left side of her brain is immersed in a variety of strategic marketing initiatives including proposal creation, interview strategy and preparation, website development and social media management. Meanwhile, the right side gets plenty of mileage in event planning, graphic design, content development with an emphasis on corporate messaging and award submissions.

An active member of SMPS Chicago, mother of two and serial optimist, Sarah is also a volunteer on the chapter's Professional Development Committee where she served as Chair and also established the Excellence in Marketing Awards (aka. "the EMAs"). Sarah has a B.A. in English and Journalism from Butler University.

Carrie Mandelin, CPSM
Director of Business Development & Marketing, Central Operations at The Boldt Company

A 20-year industry veteran, Carrie has spent her entire career serving the AEC industry (architecture, engineering, construction) in both business development and marketing roles within the Greater Chicago and Milwaukee marketplace. Previously with HNTB and Mortenson Construction.  In her current role with Boldt, her focus is on securing new business/clients, securing and maintaining existing architect and engineering relationships, developing/implementing sales plans and positioning strategies, preparation of yearly business plans, interview facilitation and coaching, overseeing proposal responses, management of marketing staff in multiple locations; sales analysis and tracking and mentoring staff in BD efforts and culture. Lead and manage overall public relations efforts and branding strategies for Central Operations (Chicago, Milwaukee & Madison). Carrie’s reputation in the industry is a go-getter, someone who can get things done and always with high energy. She is continuously willing to roll her selves up and participate, whatever the task. 

Sloan Watson, CPSM, is Marketing Director for Bulley & Andrews.  An industry unicorn of sorts- she has been with her firm longer than she cares to admit- Sloan started her career as a Marketing Specialist. She became “hooked” by the variety presented with the position and the firm’s forward-thinking ethos of cultivating clients as opposed to chasing projects. 
In her current role, she is responsible for B&A’s overall marketing communications effort including proposal production, public relations, content development, project photography, special events and client relations.  An ensemble of three, B&A’s marketing team responds to over $1 billion worth of opportunities annually. Sloan’s leadership has cultivated a high level of trust, coordination and shared vision among team members while encouraging candor, new ideas and contrasting opinions. The result is a dynamic that has enabled B&A to more clearly articulate its value in the marketplace.
An avid fan of a good practical joke and the national parks system, a devotee of Rifle Paper and mother of three, Sloan’s out of office contributions includes coaching Girls on the Run, volunteering with the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry and being an active member of SMPS Chicago. A member since 1999, she is involved with the chapter’s Professional Development committee and has been gratified to contribute to the committee’s mission to provide high-value, low-cost programming to its membership.
Sloan earned a B.A. in Communication from the University of Dayton and holds a certificate in Integrated Marketing from The University of Chicago’s Graham School.

Pam O’Deen-Pishler

As 20-year veteran, Pam has experience in both Marketing and Business Development in several markets.  She earned a BA in Economics at Indiana University-Bloomington. She began her AEC career in Indianapolis with a large environmental engineering consulting firm as their Marketing and Business Development Manager prior to moving to Chicago.  In Chicago, she has represented engineering, construction and currently a sub-contractor in Chicago, Michigan and Wisconsin. 

In her current role with Lenex Steel, Pam serves as Business Development Manager responsible for securing and maintaining existing and new relationships and working with general contractors and structural engineers.  She develops and implements pursuit and positioning strategies.  Additionally, she helps maintain the company’s website and CRM system. 

Pam is not only one of SMPS Chicago’s Past Presidents, she has severed on the board for SMPS Indiana and was Co-Chair for one of the most successful SMPS Heartland Regional Conferences in 2015 which was held in Chicago.  

Jillian Wicklund, Color Production Supervisor, Cushing

Jill is responsible for establishing and implementing procedures for file preparation, equipment use, quality control, and incident reports. She manages inventory and serves as the lead contact with Sales and Accounting regarding production. Jill has been a member of the Cushing team for over nine years and has assisted notable clients, including Groupon, Yelp, and the NHL.
